We're working in Revit 2009 and attempting for the 1st time to complete the heating & cooling load calc's in the program. Have set-up MEP, Architectural and Structural central files. I thought that the U-value was a property of the wall type sub materials (or glass, roof, etc.) in the Arch file and that my MEP file would "read" the u-value and use that in the energy analysis. It appears that the only way to assign a u-value to the wall is thru the Space properties, Construction Type field in the MEP file and that there is no link between the envelope properties and the energy analysis. Does anyone know of a way for the architect to set the u-values or for them to be incorporated into the model? Thanks!

nope you are correct, building constructions is what you need to define, revit will understand what is a interior vs exterior wall. also no offense to architects, both my parents are (so i assume i have the same tendencies) but i know some that dont even know the difference between a 100w incandescent and a t5 light let alone u and r values...and that would be if these said architects could model enclosed spaces, nice thing about the building constructions is though they can be transfered between projects and then changed as needed...
