I am new to revit and this is my first post, with the exception of my newbie-introduction thread, so bear with me. I'm designing a small 1-story home with a sunk-in living room. The living and dining rooms are all one space with the only thing dividing them being two or three stairs that span the width of both rooms. To complicate things even further, the stairs aren't completely straight; half of the length is straight and the other half are on a radius. I hope that makes sense to everyone? I assume I have to create a new level for the living room floor, but is there a way to create a new set of stairs that will connect to both levels? I also thought I could just create a stair shaped object with the dimentions I need and place it in the model, but I don't know how to do that in Revit either (although I suppose I could create it in 3Dmax and import it in). Any ideas?

1. You can create a new level for the sunk in floor, but you don't have too since you can offset floor slabs from levels. It depends on what you need for your other drawings. 2. I am assuming that you are talking about each individual tread being part straight and then curving. I would suggest using an in-place family. Use the sweep tool with the profile being the tread. This should work out fine, since you only have a few steps. You'll have to use a generic model category, as stairs are not available. Check the helps on using the sweep tool. Should work out just fine. As a note, sketches are always useful to help us help you.

Hi, see this, I think you are talking about 2 or 3 steps and not stairs (an image clarify the problem)...: http://screencast.com/t/yP5xM3qr

Wow, thank you for the quick replies. Both of you were very helpful and Typhoon's tutorial was amazing! I will play with all of this info and see what happens. I'll also make sure to post pics next time too. Thanks again!

I was just playing around with your suggestions and it worked like a charm. Thank you very much! I'll post pics when I get a bit further. Is there a good place to find some railing models?

There are sample files installed in the Metric or Imperial Library installed with Revit
