I'm new to Revit Building. Moved from Archicad some weeks ago. The problem I'm having is with a custom window family. I needed to create a Jeld-Wen Sector Top 3 Unit. I started in the new family editor, drew my ref. planes, created an opening, created a frame as a solid sweep with a profile I lifted from another window family supplied by Jeld-Wen then I created the glazing as a solid extrusion. Everything looked fine until I loaded it into my project. When the window is placed in a wall the glazing is offset outside of the window frame. Also, when I cut a section through the wall the window is placed in only the opening is visible. No frame. No glazing. Doesn't matter what the detail level is set at. I'm hoping this is something obvious that I overlooked. But any help would be great. Thanks, Will

When you create wall hosted elements, you have to be careful what Revit acssociates the elements with. You might think you located them right only to find what you have found. That's why I like to create wall hosted elements anchored to a plane well outside the family wall. Before closing the family, I relocate this work plane to where I want it using a dimension or a paramter. This will allow you to control where the window is in relation to the wall surface. Wall based trim is locked to the wall face. As far as what you see.... You have to set that in the family when you create it. Each element can be set seperately for coarse/medium/fine visibility as well as section/plan/elevation. Yo can also add parameters to control visibility of elements and 2D category lines.

Thanks for the help guys. I did lock my solid elements after I created them. But I set my work planes right against the faces of those elements. I'll try relocating the planes as WWHub suggested. So far learning Revit has been relatively pain free. And I must admit, it is much more robust than Archicad. And I was a die hard Archicad user for seven years.
