I am working on a particular project where I have two buildings that I need in the same revit file, however I am compiling them into two different sets. So far I have been able to make all legends/schedules ect work by copying and renaming the view. However, now I tried to copy the door hardware schedule for the first building and no luck. Do I have to create a totally new schedule from scratch for this to work?

Yes. I ran into the same problem when I re-created schedules that we show on our prints. We show a door hardware combination schedule (key schedule) and individule schedule for each type of door hardware in the project. It makes for a LOT of parameters to be added to your doors (as instance parameters), but allows you to add a column in your Door/Window Schedule for a 'Hardware Letter' (which looks to your 'Hardware Key Schedule'). It's a lot of work, but works great when you get it all done.
