I have a fairly complicated company logo that I would like to cut out of a metal panel that is being hung on a building.  Any ideas on how/if that can be done?

I didn't know if there is a way to extrude a mass from an image and then cut it out as a void from a solid mass.

I'm not getting my hopes up about it, but if it is possible, it would be excellent.  Thanks in advance.  (I'm using 2009)

As long as you can describe the shape with linework in sketch-mode, it can be extruded as a positive or negative.  But it can not be an image....

Do exactly as you suggest, but I would use a generic model rather than massing.  If there is text in the logo you'll have to use a workaround as you cannot create void model text.

This is the logo:

I'm not sure I'm following.  Do I need to trace it, then extrude?

"I have a fairly complicated company logo" - Hummm I don't think so....

Use the Extrusion, i think i create that in a "Generic Model Face Based" or "Wall Based"....
