Hi, I would like to ask if it's possible for the baluster to "wrap around" the circular railing (pls see attached image). If I increase the top offset of the baluster, protrudes out of the railing by that amount, never halfway through it.. (to give a wraparound look) Another question: are railing family files considered a host sweep? I would like to nest a detailed profile (detailed component rfa) of the railing into a railing rfa, but it doesn't show when the rfa is loaded in a project. This is unlike the curtain wall mullions, which load successfully. I'm using rac 2009.. Thanks in advance.

Railings are more like curtain walls than mullions. A curtain wall consistst of a number of components, that are families in their own right, as do railings. A baluster is like a mullion and can be loaded as a rfa. You can create a separate file with your collection of railings, and then copy and paste the relevant one into your project, or have them defined in your template. I'm not sure what you mean by 'wrap around' with regard to the baluster. Do you need the baluster to extend to the centre of the rail?

tim123 thanks for replying~ yeah i have separate family files made for the railing and the balusters. When I meant "wraparound", its where the baluster actually penetrates / intersects the railing, which doesn't seem possible. I attached another image below to show what I mean.. I tried to have a top offset for my balusters, but what happens in my revit project is that the top offset meant the balusters penetrate through the entire railing and offset from above the railing. It can't penetrate half the railing? The other question is whether the section profile of the railing (in the image, right, hatched) can be seen in the project. The profile is a detail family nested in the railing family file. However it doesn't show up in my project section, unlike my curtain wall sections. I'm wondering if it's because railings are not considered as host sweeps (unlike curtain wall mullions). I'm really tempted to manually make a detail component out of my railing just so that everything falls in place!

You probably need to edit the top of the baluster to wrap around the rail - see image. The rail should show up in a section, although it will show as a solid circle and not a tube. I have added a fill region to show the inner face of the tube drawn over the rail (which is visible).

I create a few months ago something like what you want, In the profile of the baluster create that "Half Circle" like you want then with the offset (in the properties of the rail) control the position of the rail/baluster, about the other issue (rail in tube when you create a section) well, what I do is in the profile i create two circles then In bottom i create two vertical paralel lines (with the offset at minimum) and trim the lines with the circles - with this you create like a Closed Polyline....

Thanks for your replies tim123 and Typhoon! I finally understand~ =) I got the wraparound finally... i wonder why i hadn't tried that first before posting... it was so simple!! x| regarding the profile, I guess I can only draft it on a specific section view... anyway thanks again for your help!

Typhoon had the answer to this where you create a closed loop with a small opening - you can then show the inner line also - good idea Typhoon.
