I have a floor that has to be partially demolished. The only solution I can come up with is to trim the existing floor back to the line of demolition and then draw in a new floor section and then pick Demolish. Even this does not work well because, a floor in plan doesn’t appear all that differently in demo as it does in existing conditions…there is no dashed perimeter line or half-toned surface material. Plus this seems like an extreme procedure…to cut out a section of a floor only to replace it with a new section in order to demolish it. Also, if the trim line moves, I would then have to move the floor line for both surfaces. Is there a way to create a sub-region where the trim line travels between the existing and demo floor sections?

Draw a grid line where they meet. Align and lock both floors to the gridline. When you move the grid line, the join will move with it. With regard to the display, you should be able to get it to display the way you want. Look at 'Graphic overrides' in the Phasing dialogue box.

Thanks tim123, I will give that a try. By grid lines, do you mean column grid lines? Or just model lines? I have tried changing overrides for the demo phase but when I get to Projection/Surface Patterns, the only options I have are cross-hatch / endgrain type patterns. The floor I am demolishing is a carpeted wood truss floor. There isno pattern equivalent for that and even when I use half-toning, the carpet 'fibers' are so small that it isn't even distinguishable from existing carpet. The perimeter line comes in dashed all right but it obscured by the perimeter of the existing floor. It just seems logical that Revit should have some kind of shared exist/demo line that will display dashed and also move with the shared edges on surface type demolitions.
