Hello All, I have the opportunity to do some free lance Revit work. I have over just over a years experience with Revit Architecture, but the firm that I will be working with is a structural firm. Questions are: Does anyone know how the vast the differences are between Revit Architecture and Structural Revit? Is it pretty similar in user interface with tasks such as drafting and model making? Does Structural have more building analysis programs built in? Are they pretty complicated or easy to operate?I am not completely sure what the scope of work will be. And therefore am having a tough time associating a cost with my services. What is the going rate for drafting? If they want me to teach them how to use the program, what should I charge?Any help would be greatly appreciated?

Modelling & Drafting in Revit Structure & Architecture are very similar. Things to get your head around are: Reinforcing tools, working top down instead of bottom up... Yes Revit Structure has a lot more plugins to enable the sitck model anaylsis to occur in other programs. But if your primary task is going to be modelling then you shouldn't have too much difficulties.

I am agree with you, Mr Spot, both Revit Architecture and Revit Structure are very similar. I have both platforms in our current company I work for, in terms of modeling and drafting I personal feel that they are almost indentical, some refining tool in Revit Structure certainly make work much easier, I wish that will available in Revit Architecture too. But I don't understand what you mean about "Making top down instead of bottom up", are you meaning while you placing column in Revit Structure, they intend to extend itself downward rather than upward like Revit Architecture? if so, I am agree with you. Scabone4, my advice to you is don't try to be a Revit guru as this stage, I am sure you have a lot of experience in Revit Architure, and I can tell you most of the methods work in Revit Architecture will work in Revit Structure too, however, different discipline has different demand or expectation from Revit platform, so if you are sure some questions they are asking, you better to tell them you will find out and answer them later within the same day. Expect will be asked for a lot of technical questons, if your contract don't including teaching and training, you can choose answer those 5mins questions, but longer or too many 5mins question I suggest you should tell your supervisor ask them to sign for the time for the questions you answer. I don't think you can ask for different rate for you to answer their Revit technical questions, rather than the initial rate you commited with them. So ensure yourself cover the rate of answering Revit technical questions sometime. For commercial Revit consultant rate is about $100 to $150 per hr, but their commercial of course the rate will include overhead and profit margin, for private Revit consultant I have no idea.
