I had downloaded the Accustudio material library files and pathed them into REVIT sometime ago and everything seems to work fine. However, when I download a single specific texture, say for brick or carpet, I cannot locate it to use in REVIT. Does the library file get updated automatically or must this be done by the user? Also, when I upgrade REVIT, it duplicates the Accurender, Acustudio and User libraries. Some libraries are even duplicated within themselves. I guess I am having difficulty managing my files in Accustudio and there is little help offered at their website, which suggests that unzipped files will find their way home. There is a lot of useful content at this site and I just can't seem to get it to where I can locate it.

With each new version of revit i install the rendering library into a separate location. Then I copy all the materials etc across (maintaining file structure) to make sure i get any new materials if there are any... I also make sure not to overwrite any of my mlib files. By keeping this all in one location you end up with only one library location and thus no duplicates. As for the Accustudio content, which i currently use. I located the Mlib files in a folder called accustudio and referenced it revit. The folders for the various carpet samples are in this accustudio folder with there correct names "artek maps", "bigelow maps"... Those that don't have there own folders are just located in the accustudio folder... All works as expected. HTH.

Mr Spot, I'm with you up unitl you install separate files in the general Accustudio folder. I, also, download files, such as .jpg files for brick samples, and dump into the C:Accustudio general file. However, I cannot locate these particular jpg. files in the accustudio library when I try and assign a material to the brick in Revit. Just the standard materials extracted from the main material library files. Nothing I have added as separate downloaded materials.

Be sure you have added them correctly in your rendering file locations within revit. Providing you've installed everything in C:Accustudio it should appear as follows. C:Accustudio - Contains all maps (that are not sub-directory based) and mlib files. You then should have sub-directories in here as follows: artek maps bigelow maps corian maps grass maps Then in revit you should have the rendering location under additional materials dialog setup to reference c:Accustudio as this is the location of the mlib file. Providing everything is located as above it should work correctly. If not check the material you are trying to apply and check the location of the map and re-reference it the correct location. HTH.

Mr. Spot, Still no go and this ( C:Accustudio ) IS the lcoation where I had been placing all the separate material files I downloaded from Accustudio. Question: How does Accustudio know how to take a randomly named brick file (ie: 69-Willamsburg.jpg) put into the general CAccustudio directory and properly place that into it's folder Accustudio/Brick and Ceramic/Masonry Brick subfolder avaiable only in Revit. I don't believe the Accustudio sub-folders are available from any root directory.

Rookwood, The textures that you download from Accustudio or any other place on the web are simply maps that a material defined in Revit will use. We place them out on the server and categorize them. In Revit you need to define a material to use the textures. These new materials you define will then be placed into your "user" folder or any folder that you create. I would recommend creating a company standard material library folder on the network. To create the Revit material I find it easiest to start with one that is close in the Revit or Accustudio library, right click on it then choose "new" "use current material as template". On the material map tab is where you will delete the current texture map and then add the one you want from your download collection. Then you will save this new material to your library. HTH Tom

The directory structure for actual accustudio (mlib) file is completely separate to that of the windows explorer directory structure. Take a material that isn't working. Choose edit in accurender, click the maps tab edit the loaded map and browse to its actual location. Take note of where its actually looking for the file... HTH.

Life is good again in the Revit world and another learning experience. I didn't realize that you have to map each jpg file you want to use. So I did set up a master library and even discovered how to scale the images to look more in proportion with the rendering. Again, thanks for all your help and advice. Now on to the next (temporary) obstacle!
