this view range thing is worse than a chinese puzzle..

i've got a 30 foot high pyramid with the fouth

level being right at the tip so i can study the view

range..

on every level (with the work plane showing)-

i go to the view range dialog..

it's easy to see how changing the cut plane

number shows how much you can see up

from that level.. but what is the purpose

of the top and bottom settings..

hopefully someone's answer won't also

be like a chinese puzzle to understand..

The primary range is between the top and bottom clip planes.  The cut plane is the level at which the view is cut.  By default the View Depth is the same as the bottom clip plane.  This can be overridden by the view range, which appears to do the same thing as the bottom clip plane.  The difference is that Revit reads these as 'Beyond' with the view depth, but not with the lower Clip plane.
If you change the 'Beyond' linetype to grey or a different colour you will see that they display differently when adjusting the lower clip plane compared to the View depth.
