I gave my GYP ceiling a hatch pattern in the elemet prop's, but it won't show in the ceiling plan. I have checked the VG's and it seems everything is turned to visable with no overrides (Ceiling, Projection/Surface - Pattern). Is there another setting i'm missing so so that this will show? If i override the ceiling it will hatch it, but it will not show by just changing the element properties. I also have a ACT ceiling that shows the lines, but if i give it a hatch in the EP's it won't show. I find it very strange and know it's got to be a simple thing. Please Help!

I'm having the same problem. I made sure the hatch pattern was set to drafting/ not model...shouldnt this work?

I figured it out. I went to the visibility graphics and selected a pattern there under the 'ceilings' category. it worked!

The problem with that is that it overrides all the ceiling types to show the same pattern. I have multiple ceiling types that require diffrent hatches.

If you have different ceiling types that require different hatches - then you need to define these materials and assign them to the ceilings. You can have more that one of any material if you want ... each has to be a unique material name. Gyp 1...Gyp2 ...etc

I have assigned the hatch to the ceiling type in element properties and it won't show up in plan. I have checked the VG's under the ceiling catigory and it's all visible and by catigory (no overrides). I don't know what the problem is... I'm thinking there is another setting some where that I need to change. It's very strange. If i override in VG dialog the hatches show up, but then all ceiling types have the same hatch. The hatch has worked on another project, there is just something I'm missing.

Just a silly question but is it the detail level?

This might be a stupid question.... is this a true ceiling plan .... or did you use a floor plan. Remember ... ceiling plans are "REFLECTIVE" - if it's a floor plan, you are looking down ...

It is a true ceiling plan. It's located under the Ceiling plan pull down in the project browser. It's really strange that it won't show up. I have had two other people in my office look at it and they can't help...

OK ... unless you are not telling us something, the problem must be in your file. This is not an issue that Revit has normally. Did you try to make a new ceiling plan for the same level? BTW - screen shots of you settings for the ceiling / materials / view properties could help our analysis. You appear to be a relatively new REVIT user and sometimes new users don't know exactly what they are looking at.

The GUI you show for the fill pattern is not the surface pattern. It would be a cut pattern. The surface pattern is controlled by editing the structure of the ceiling. See attached. My setting has no surface pattern but does have a fill pattern.
