I am trying to add a field to a schedule to calculate a total but cannot figure out how to do it. I have a family of shelf units. Each unit has a length and a number of vertical shelves in each unit. Using the field "Count" I can get the total number of shelf units. I tried to create a calculate field that gives me the total length of shelving like this "Count" * "Shelf Length" * "# of Shelves" but it says I cannot use "Count" in a formula. So how do I do this Assuming I can get this working. Can I get total formatted in total inches not feet and inches.

You can create a total length without a calculated parameter - just get the total from the schedule.

I do not follow your answer. In my case I have a series of library shelving that are different lengths and they have different number of shelves high in each shelf unit. To get total length of shelving I must be able to multiply # of shelf types * their length * # of shelves high in each unit. ie If I have 6 shelves 3ft long with 7 shelves in the unit I have 6x3x7 = 126 lf x 12 inches per ft = 1512 lineal inches of shelving . Lineal Inches of shelving is waht the bldg program is written with.

Yeah sorry, I missread your query. The way to do it is to create a shared parameter in your family, called 'shelf length' or similar and give it a calculated field such as ' length x number'. Your family will then come into a project with the total amount of shelf calculated. In your schedule create the same shared parameter and you can then total these values in the schedule.
