I need help!!! i have a compound wall shape that I created using massing. I then created a "wall by face". Now I need to punch some openings in the wall i created... how do accomplish this without adding openings in my mass family?

Well, you can do that in several ways, if your wall is straight (what I doubt) you can "edit Profile" and create a opening on that, but like you said you use the massing tool and apply Wall by face so your wall it's like a funzy shape isn't?? You can create a "Generic Model Wall based" or "Face based" and create a void with the shape you want and load into the project and apply where you want, you can go to a window family and edit the "opening" line, change the shape and use that like a window.... door (the same)... you have several ways to do that...
