Hi, I am a student in The Art Institute of Las Vegas and I've started a project with Revit. I have found several families in Revit City, some of them I've been able to change the materials and colors and others I haven't. Can anyone help me make changes, for example a single banquet I found, I would like to change the color of the seating, when its being rendered the default color shows up. I've tried editing the family it self but I get stuck when I can't find the same screen when you change the materials in other families. Also, there is a flower vase, when its being rendered the flower is in default color, how could i change the color of the flower? Please Help Thank You!!!!

Hi julixa, " I've tried editing the family it self but I get stuck when I can't find the same screen when you change the materials in other families." (?????) Assuming you have RAC 2009, open your family file go to settings>materials..., there you will see the materials for your families, i.e. your banquette has 2 materials: "red plastic", and "wood-birch". What you have to do is simply update the materials by changing them (see images), the same for your flowers...hope it helps...

Same here, Im using Arch 2011 and have the same problem. I change the material, click apply and then load it into the project and its a no go.

max, In Revit, the project always rules. For instance, thake a material like aluminum. Maybe in your project, you want all your aluminum to be anodized white so you set the material that way. Then you load another family that has a material called aluminum in it and it was set at anodized bronze. What do you think should happen? THE PROJECT RULES. So this means you can change the material allyou want in the family but once it is set in the project, the project will over-ride the family. You oiptions once it is already loaded are to change it in the project, or if the material is unique to only this family, you can delete the family form the model and now re-load it.
