Revit Architecture 2009, I am trying to use IES lighting. I have set the light distribution to web in the family editor, and tryed various IES file for the Photometric Web File; renderings are black. The light source is not above the ceiling or in a fixture where the light would be trapped. Fixtures that render functioning with light using other light source definitions, i.e. spot, work fine, but when the same fixture uses an IES file, no light when rendered.

I am currently using Revit MEP '09. When creating the perspective go to view properties and make sure that the discipline is set to Architecture. this may only be a MEP option). Next, check the to see if the artificial lights are on under the lighting area in the Rendering pop up window. Also, in this area make sure under Scheme that you have selected either interior or exterior artificial lighting is on.

an ies file is the photometric information of a specific lighting fixture including things like balast, lumens, etc.., it is basically a test file that the manufacturer provides, this is not to be confused with the other ies (integrated environmental solutions) <ve>. There is no problem going between the platforms in mep 08 there was the option to associate an ies file and not in arch, in 09 autodesk gave the architects the power to do this too. i mainly use mep, so we use the ies files for lighting analysis even though it is giving us only zonal cavity calculations we still export to ies <ve> to do the point by point calcs. hth robert irev your analysis of the problem is correct and should work.
