I am new to Revit development and I have a requirement using the Revit 2009 API to modify the structure of a wall by either changing the function and material of a layer or by adding new layers to an existing wall. I believe I have found examples for changing the material but have been unsuccesful in locating anything that allows layers to be added or the function of a layer to be changed. The CompondStructureLayerArray has both an Append and an Insert method but both seem to fail when I try to use them. Has anyone altered a wall's structure in such a way and if so what am I missing? Does anyone know if this is even possible? From what I have read it is not possible to create an entire wall from scratch via the API. The closest you can come to that is to duplicate an existing wall and then modify it. Given that I want to add a layer, I am guessing this falls into creation and is not possible. Any help is appreciated. Thanks. - John Mercure
