I've presented this question in the past to several forums but no one seems to understand what I am asking. Please see the attachment. I have had a couple of responses telling me to use spot elevation tags to achieve this. Unless I'm wrong, spot elevations will initially display the same height information (relative to first floor height). Each of these then would need to be changed manually to display the desired text. Each instance of this manual process adds time to the project and presents another opportunity for the introduction of human error in the text manipulation, both of which are extremely counterproductive to my work. In production housing design automatic and global control of repetitive information is essential. I need to be able to access a single setting that will allow me to set the display of this information once for the entire project.

Sorry but the industry standard is that elevation markers are from ONE reference, base elevation. You can set that anywhaer you want but you can't hae multiples. USE DIMENSIONS! and use a level marker that doesn't have the elevation marker.

I agree with WWHub - I've never seen the information presented like this. You could however create a bit of a workaround by extending what KingRevit has suggested. I created a new dimension style that was white and switched off the bubble. Set the dimension to horizontal and drag it to the level line. It will adjust when you move the level, but you'll have to manually readjust the text placement. You can then add aprefix to the dimension.

As a contractor, i don't see a problem with the way levels are handled. I usually place my dimensions for wall heights, floor thickness, etc dimensions in the section view some time in concert with the levels sometimes by themselves. Of course this can be done in elevation too. but i like to keep elevations somewhat "clean". Once the carpenter/builder identifies wall heights (around here standard precut studs are 92 5/8" or 104 5/8" for 8 and 9' walls) or whatever wall height you tell him, he doesn't have to worry about the levels again. I don't think it's worth the time to do a work around for an industry standard. that's my 2 cents for what it's worth. john
