i am using revit structure 2009. i have a single story retail building, rectangular in shape, that has a wood truss system at 24" o.c. my question is; am i correct in using the beam system to draw the wood trusses or should i draw a single truss and array it. i am trying to use the beam system however i can't seem to load the wood trusses into the system. i select the beam system, select element properties, under instance parameter - beam type and try to select the open web joist (2x4 chord) and they aren't there. however, i have already loaded them into my structural framing family. any ideas... thank you for your time and help. eric

Have you checked the family parameters for the truss to ensure they match family parameters for the other roof framing elements.

>> Have you checked the family parameters for the truss to ensure they match family parameters for the other roof framing elements. << i might be waisting your time. i will try to answer this as best as i can with the little knowledge i have of revit. definetly the k-series joists are different from the open web joist, that we both know. however, i don't understand why i can't use this tool to draw a rectangular box and fill it with a joist system of open web joists at 24" o.c. max. thank you again for your patience.

Open the 2x4 joist family and go to "family category and parameters" under the settings menu. Check to see what category the 2x4 is listed under. Then open a typical framine element, say a w-shape, and compare it's family category & parameters to the 2x4 joist. Let me know what you find.
