I downloaded a hanging type range vent from Revit City.  It didn't go into the imperial library but in another location.  I found it in the different location and tried to place it on the level 1 floor plane but it didn't seem to find any thing to attach to, like a toliet to a wall would.  I am using architecture 2009 version.  What am I missing. Should I create a ceiling and attach it to to that or ?  I am basically a beginner for the most part.  Any suggestions?  There is a message that appears about a one time upgrade but I can't read the rest of message due to my slowness of reading.

Is it a hosted family or free instance?  Open the actual family and see if there is a ceiling or anything in there that it attaches to.  If not then its a free instance as such you just place it in space and set it to the desired height and plan location.
