Can anyone tell me how to place a spot elevation in plan view without the need for it to be attached to an edge? IE: floor levels placed at the center of slabs is normal - on the edge will confuse the contractors! Is their a 'gravity' button similar to archicad which allows me to set my snaps to surfaces rather than edges?

Yeah, in plan view change the "Model Graphics Style:Wireframe" to "Hidden or shade mode".... then you can apply the Spot Elevation where you want (Slab)....
