I have several items that I have dropped into my site a truck and a flag pole to be specific that when I render them they turn out white. In the 3d shadden verson they are full color. I went in and looked at the family and they are created from dwgs that I can not edit. But they are 3d faces that generally render the color of the layer that they are. Why is evverything going white on me.

Answered my own question. in the materials whoever created the family did not set the render appearnce and when I chagned them they did not override the materials that were already set in my project. So I had to modify the materials in my project not in the family.
