trying to create some signage plaques in a legend. when using text (i.e. mens restroom, elevator, etc...), it scales up and down with the scale of the drawing and i need it to stay the same size. any way around this? i tried creating a family and using model text but it becomes distorted due to the text size 3/4". thanks

Revit does not like very small items so if you are using 3/4" model text in a 1/4 scale view - it probably will not work and may not work in renders. Use a jpeg instead if you want it to work in rendered views.
