I did the basis course, the instruter refered to the coursware once then worked only from his notes, he new Revit but basicly gave a demo for 3 days. I bought:-ItroducingRevit Architecture 2009 for beginers, Introducing and Implementing Revit Architecture 2009, and Mastering Revit Architecture 2009. I can also READ, I design houses only with a bit of light commercial stuff, I do not and have no interest in doing shopping Malls or high rise apartments. I need to be able to import site details (which I can do) then place the house rotated on that site rotated to indicate position on that site and also have true north in relation to the site (that is inserted with true north to the top) this is important for a true indication for shadows. I need this information hopefully in one or two easily accessed locations. Idealy there would be a guide that has all this (that is designing and placing a house as described above in one spot). lets face it most users design houses as I do.

I am doing similar work perhaps I can help. Mostly hillside residences are you getting full survey import data or are you haveing trouble with the toposurface aspects? It is easy enough to set your site plan set up.

Generally I setup boundary lines on my model first. Then I import survey, read carefully how to import 3D data, page 430 in my Revit Architecture user's guide, before I create the surface I carefully align the boundary of the surface with the one that I created. Then I go through the process of creating the topo surface, when I first started it took me a few tries to get it correct. Look at you model in 3D, this will help with getting the elevations correct. you may find that you need to move the surface up or down in order to get the correct surface elevations, this I do by picking a point on a solid object which has a spot elevation in the original survey I set using the drafting tab of the design bar and using the spot elevation tool. Then you can select the surface and move it up or down as needed to set the surface at the correct elevation. Select the crop view window not the object and rotate to square up the view. I set my Levels after this process. I like the drafting bar detail lines to sketch lines with for figuring out set backs etc. these are always visible but if you use the lines in the Basics tab they are drawn on the plane and dissapear into the ground. This is really annoying. Hopefully this will get you started.
