Is there any way to create a "no plot" text and/or line?

No ... but ref lines can be set not to plot. What do you want to do? Maybe there is another way than what we did in CAD

There always seems to be a need for a note that will not plot. It could be a note that a detail needs further evaluation, a question to the engineer, information that needs to be verified before final issue, reference information that we do not need on the plot, but want to be able to see. I have used no plot text since AutoCAD was a baby.

First - I have to say this is not AutoCAD - It is not a drafting program. From a post at AUGI: "You might create an empty drafting view and place it on a sheet, then activate the drafting view and annotate what you don't want plotted there. When you're ready to export, remove this view from the sheet and export them separately. Now you have a "layer" of info. that can be overlayed in Acad and then deleted when the changes are made. Alternatively, you might consider using DWF mark-up sets (we never used them so I can't help you there)." Or you could create a markup legend for that sheet. I think the DWF markup is a usefull tool. If you are a member of AUGI, chack out this link - there are some useful suggestions there: http://forums.augi.com/showthread.php?t=27381&page=2

First of all, I have been a CAD manager for 19 years and know the difference between AutoCAD and Revit. I am fully aware that Revit is a modeling program. It does however have a drafting aspect. One of my responsibilities is to develop drafting views for standardized structural engineering details. All projects require details that Revit cannot produce except in a drafting view. I am also pretty good at DWF. A DWF is a great tool for sending a drawing to a client for his comments. It is however useless as an interoffice tool. Maybe one day Revit will add this feature and catch up with AutoCAD.

Agree with lugnut. We all know that Revit is a different animal than AutoCAD. However, given the expense of the program & that AutoDesk has been responsible for this product for several years now we should be able to have non-plotting text/dimensions. To be able to create a family type with a "plot/no plot" parameter checkmark, that's all I ask.

We are now using working views for plans and some other views that are never meant to be placed on sheets. We want our staff to use these views for model development rather than views placed on sheets. In these views, we add notes to each other - dimensions - whatever we need for coordination because they will never be printed.
