I have just tried this and cant figure out how to fix it. When I draw a ground beam then place a column on top the column cuts the ground beams so they are no longer connected, even though the materials are the same and the column stops on top of the ground beams. I have attached a JPEG to make it clearer!

For some reason i can't reproduce your problem which you described. But just out of curiousity, why are you creating seperate beams? Isn't it easier to draw the beam from one end to the other.

i usually would do this was a problem i just noticed and thought there must be a way to fix it! you create it by when you open a new model. Put the columns spanning level 1 to level 2 and the "ground" beams having there top on level 1, this should recreate it i think! is annoying though as it should be an easy fix i would have thought!

I tried to draw it like you suggested, only at my drawing it works how you want it to work. So i don't know what's the problem. What kind of material are you using, i noticed that precasted concrete reacts not the same as other concretetypes.

sorted it! it was placing the columns by depth so the analytical model was cutting it, just changed it to place by height and its sorted! cheers!
