HI, I just purchased MAX 9 to do some walthroughs of the Revit 2009 project and was told to use FBX as I have already maps and lights in Revit to transfer over. Unfortunately, there is an error in importing FBX. I read here on another post that you might not be able to import Revit 2009 into Max 9 (Honestly, whats the difference between Max 9 and Max 2009???) Any suggestions how to get my Revit to import into Max 9 with FBX as it is an option in Max 9 to import or did I mess up and not buy 2009 for importing? I guess I could do DWG if all else fails?? Thanks

Hi jeffrb25, Revit 2009 .fbx files are only compatible with 3ds Max 2009 or 3ds Max design 2009.In fact, once I tried to do that with 3ds Max 2008 and I couldn´t, so I´d to install 3ds max 2009 on my computer.I don´t know if the one who told you that maybe confused the names (Max 9 with Max 2009)?.....

I had a bad feeling about that. Still not sure the differences betweent the MAX softwares as I am new to it. MAX 9 has FBX import option?? What is best for rendering and walkthroughs for buildings creating in Revit? Max 2009 or Design 2009? What version of FBX files can 9 import? Thanks

i think max design 2009 is a scaled down fearture version of 3ds max 2009 for those who don't need full-blown Max. i think the rendering quality should be some what comparable?

Hi jeffrb25, Max 2009 and Max design 2009 are basically the same, the main difference is that 3ds Max design 2009 is "especially" for interior designers and architects. Why?, ´cause you´ll find many materials (promaterials) there, (if you use mental ray for renderings of course)......but in anyway, you can export .dwg files from Revit 2009 to 3ds Max 9 and render with whichever renderer you want (mental ray, vray, Brazil, Maxwell, etc.). Finally Max 9 can import .fbx files but not from Revit 2008 or 2009.

Hi erland 73, GREAT! I feel I am finally getting somewhere here, thanks for the info. I will try to import into Max 9 a dwg file and see how it turns out. I have done some pretty good rendering output from Revit 2009, but want to do animation with people moving, etc. Where can I get people to move around my model in Max 9? Is there an architecture plugin for poeple, trees, entourage, etc. Thanks again

Hi jeffrb25, of course, there are many plugins for 3ds max, but usually not for free. I don´t see your e-mail in your profile, so i could send to you some models (I repeat just some models.......)
