I created a vanity group

2 24" vanities

one countertop

one sink bowl

I copied the group and also inserted the group and different results with ea. command.

In both cases neither result was a duplicate of the group.

See attached file

Any suggestions??

Did you model the vanity using an "In-Place Family"?

  • 6gb Kingston RAM 800mz DDR2

I used one that was already created.  Either one that came from the Revit software or downloaded from Revit City or other download site

Is there a way to check the way they were made.

did a little looking for significance of in-place familes in relation to groups and couldn't find anything.

what's the issue concerning how, in this case, the counter top might have been made?

I was able to insert the group from my browser with the expected results, but only once.

also discovered that I get a distorted result just by moving the group, just like the images in my original post.

I've tried ungrouping the group and making a new group with the same elements. All good until I moved the new group.  I even got a distorted cabinet depth when I moved the new group.

Some how this group ... or probably a family in the group is locked to something.  A reference plane maybe?

How was this vanity built?

used (2) 24" Revit software cabinets and modified the dims to 21" deep instead of 24" and I may have adjusted the height dim as well.  Aligned and locked the back plane of the cabs as well as the shared sides.

used an already made countertop not sure if it was in the Revit software or if I downloaded it from Revit City.  Modified the depth to 22".

used a 19" round sink and aligned with the countertop as needed. relocated the sink hole.

created group by selecting all items, hit the group button above. named the group to get a model group.

I made a 5' vanity using 2 30" cabinets in the same manner as above.

It inserted fine but when I moved it the countertop deformed to the image attached.

So you are saying that all the families were created outside of the project?  Not sure you said that.

You say you aligned some of the families and locked them?  To what?

The align tool is great but be aware of what you are aligning and locking to.  It may appear visually that you have picked the right opbject but multiple items usually reside in  the same place and you have to look in the lower left corner to see what you have actually picked ... & tab through your choices.

Ans.--At some point in the past I may have pulled some content and downloaded in to my template drawing which is the file I'm working in at this point.

You say you aligned some of the families and locked them?  To what?

Ans. --After inserting the second 24" cabinet I aligned its postion with the first 24" cabinet, ( a duplicate to the first ). I aligned the rear of the cabinets and locked position, then I aligned the sides so they sat next to each other and locked that alignment.

I can't remember if any of the content came right out of the box or if I downloaded it from other sources.

I also created another group without locking anything after alignment and got similar end results.

Sorry to say this but I absolutly believe this is not a Revit issue.  You have done someting.  I've used a lot of groups in the last year+ ... and although they can give you fits sometimes, they will not do this normally.  I don't know how you slected your group items ... added your families or how they were built.  I would suggest that you try placing the families in a raw project that has nothing in it, delete and purge the families and group from the project then bring them in together and group them then.

I didn't really think it was a problem with the software.

Just thought someone else ran across similar issues.  I'll take your suggestions play with it some more.
