I've recently tried rendering elevations and have run into an odd thing. I have a house with multiple hip roofs and when it is rendered, it looks like one large mass with no definition of the separate roof elements. I've tried different lighting angles to no avail. Unfortunately I don't have a shot of this to post at the moment, but I can try and get one on here later. Any ideas on how to correct this? Using 2009.

You were going to post a view to illustrate this I believe.

I think you also need to tell us how you created the roof.  Did you create it by using an in-place family or mass and all at the same time?

Just your standard hip roof using the roof tools.

This depends on the material for that you have set for your roof - you will not be able to differentiate between the different planes with a single colour material.  If you can get shadows to show on the roof, this will give it depth.  Also if you apply something to show the hips then you will see the corners.

Although an elevation can be rendered, it will never be seen in real life.  You can duplicate the view and overlay a line drawing on your sheet - they should snap together (make the elements transparent).
