On my current projcet theer are a series of narrow reveals but when I render they are two fine to be seen. Is there anyway to colour the wall areas cut by a reveal different from the main wall colour without having to avtually use the paint tool to pick each individual service?

Well, you are using the "Reveal", is not a "Sweep" then i think the only way is using the "Paint tool"...
