I have a angled wall that I want to clean up the corner using a void form. I have the extrusion in PERFECTLY. Top to bottom. I then use the cut command. Perfect. Finish sketch...... ERROR! This mass as no solid geometry for it's void forms to cut. They must be deleted. Well how in the hell can it cut my wall if it doesn't. What am I doing wrong? How can something so simple be so difficult? OMG, I miss Sketchup! -Frustrated Revit User

roscogreene, you have to make sure that you are in the same type of family of what you are trying to cut. If it is a wall, you have to; create>wall>void then cut the wall. It has to be in the same category.

They are in the same family. "Walls". I created a few voids and it works fine. but as soon as i mirror the voids to the other side of the Rowlock like have done many times before with out a problem....it gives me this error. This is my first post so i hope you can see the attatched files.

also if i reset the wall profile it seems to work just fine. any ideas?

usually when i get that error it is becuase there is an overlap in the voids. make sure the voids you are mirroring are not overlapping. Even if two cuts shares the same plane, try offseting by 1mm to see if it will cut.

(revit 2012)
Facing a new aspect of the problem:
I'm trying to cut an excessive volume of a roof using void extrusion in an in-place component of the same category.
Everything seems to work fine except the fact that after finishing the component the cutout is replacedby the original geometry, as it has never been created. Has anyone else experienced a similar problem?

It sounds like you created your void but failed to tell it what to cut. Just creating it in the same category doesn't mean anything. You might have several roofs in the same area so Revit doesn't know.... you have to tell it.
Please review your HELP on creating voids.

The thing is that I have used "cut geometry" tool on the roof and the void form. It has worked, the intersecting volume was cut out. Put in other words, I have done as follows:
· created a new in-place component of the "roofs" category
· modeled a void extrusion intersecting with designated roof
· used "cut geometry" tool on the roof and the void form
· as a result got the desired geometry where the void form was successfully subtracted from the roof outside the component
· clicked the "finish model" button.
· The “fun” part: the subtraction disappeared as it has never been created.
· As a final result I got a roof divided into two parts – one of them has a shape of the volume that should have been subtracted. Hiding that other part gives me a result similar to the desired effect but unfortunately it is not a universal solution.
Supposedly it is just a bug in my installation?
