Hey guys, I am having a problem creating doors in Revit Architecture 2009. It is a big file that has been being used for the past 6 months or so. There are doors in the model already but we are unable to create any new ones since last week. Here is the error we are getting when trying to place doors: "A serious error has occurred. It is strongly recommended that you use Save As to save your work in a new file before continuing." Then I have options to: "Save File and Continue" or "Continue without Save" Either option doesnt matter. It doesnt matter if I create the door from scratch, create similar or copy. The door cannot be placed. I can move the door though. Any ideas??!! This is really frustrating lol Thanks alot!

I should also add that this is only happening with one Family of doors. The rest are fine. The troubled door family has been used throughout the project with no problems up until last week. The door is a single hollow metal frame door so it is used quite a bit in the model.

We can olny speculate as to what is wrong. First - when was the last time that you audited your file? You should be doing that regularly. Something may be corrupt in this family. I would rename the existing family and load a new version. If the new family works ok, you may want to swap out the existing. For each family type, just do a SA (Select all) of the bad family type and change it to the new family ... same type. All of the instace based parameters will transfer.

OK so I copied the family and it doesnt bring all the family types with it. If I open the corrupt family from Windows Explorer then the family types do not appear under "Family Types" If I open the corrupt family in Revit by clicking "Edit family" then all the families are there. If I open the copied family in either Revit or Windows Explorer then no types from the old come with it. There is GOOD news though..this new copied and renamed family of doors in working just fine. I just need to figure out why the types (different door sizes) are not coming along... Thank you!
