Hi, I'm new to RevitCity and to Revit in general. We are switching over to Revit and are currently working on our first project using this program. All of our consultants still use CAD so we have to export our drawings for their use. We want to export them to match our CAD layer standards, and I've been successful in getting most objects to export correctly. So here's my problem, some items I need to break down to smaller components to export differently. Take for example our grid lines. There is the grid bubble and the grid line. Typically in CAD we have a block that we use for our grids that is set up to be on a grid layer. The bubble color is set to 'layer' but the text we have set to read a different color. So, I want to mimic this for Revit so that it exports this way for CAD. So, first, is there a way to get the grid bubble text to come in on a seperate category in the layer exports, and second, is there anyway to get two different items to come in on the same layer, but a different color. It seemed simple enough that I set the layer name the same for the two items, and then set different colors, but that doesn't fly with Revit. It just updates everything in that layer to that color. Convienient if you just want to update a layer color for everything in that layer, but not so much if you are trying to get items to come in on one layer, but different colors. Any suggestions? Am I missing something? Also, in general, how do you change what category an object shows up in for the layer exports? I have a couple that are in the wrong category, and I have't found how you change that yet. Thanks.

Let me just start off with saying that the exporting part is a jungle. There are a lot of different ways to do this. About the grids, no I have not found any way to override this in any way. Fortunately for me we only send the grids once to our consultants and everyone uses them as xrefs and not indebbed in every document. And that way you only have to fix it in autocad Once. Of course not an optimal sollution but still. When you export to DWG the layer states what color it creates, therefore you cant create different colors in the same layer. But I have an idea for you, if you would make copies of your views and name them something like "Plan 1 Export" etc... then you can change the color for everything in that specific view (enter VV and change the line colors etc). Then of course create a view template and apply to all those views. Then the magic comes when you export the view, be sure to select "Category properties BYLAYER, overrides BYENTITY" which as indicated lets your objects come in that specific color as in your view. (You could also right-click on an object and manually just that one instead of all of that kind). This is actually the only way to get different colors in the same layer as far as I know. If you want to change a category for an object you have to select the object, press "Edit family" and go to settings/family category, that way you could tell revit that a car is a door for example (you get the picture). Each of these categories also has undercategories, like a door has frames/mullions, panel etc. Which can be exported into separate layers. I hope I got the question right. / V
