Hello.

My apologies if this is not the correct forum.   I am a student who is learning Revit Arch 2009.

I have been bringing in Sketch-up components (mainly furniture) to use in revit.  It seems to import into Revit OK.  However, when I try

to render a 3D image the sketch-up components show up in 3D but they are just white and do not have the materials or colors I added

to the component before I imported it into Revit.  Is there a way to properly render Sketch-up components in Revit?

Thank You.

Thank you!!!

I am sorry I missed that other thread in my search (which I did do before posting), but "Some objects appear to be Grey" is not very specific and did not seem to apply to me. In fact in my original renderings, my imported Sketch-up components appeared to be white not gray.   I appreciate you pointing out the thread since I would not have found it based on the title.

This is my first time ever posting on any online forum so I am new to this.

I looked over your video, http://www.screencast.com/users/typhoon/folders/Jing/media/568fab28-8397-4be5-a578-d60e3a58198c  and it was helpful but there appear to be significant differences between 2008 and 2009 versions. For instance, AccuRender is a term entirely missing from these 2009 dialog boxes... That whole portion is missing.

I have attached files showing the render, the "shading with edges" view, and the object styles and materials dialogs.  As you can see I have a lot of imported objects and the list of imported "render materials"is fairly imposing. All Sketch-up objects are rendered gray. Please note that the space is still a work in progress and few finishes (and little lighting) have been applied in Revit.

I am not sure what is my next step since the dialogs in your 2008 video do not match up with 2009.

Also, once we work this out, how (other than trial and error, which will take a long time on a project this size) do I determine which item on this list applies to where on the imported object.  For instance this simple chair appears to have 3-4 render materials, 2 of which I assume are colors and 2 are textures (fabric and wood)? Clearly, in the object styles, the line colors are not what I had chosen.  Does this matter?

Again, I am sorry I missed the other thread and I hope you're still willing to help me out with these additional questions since you clearly know what you're doing.

Thank you.

Update: I've been reading over more posts re Sketchup and Revit, and perhaps I am not going to get what I'm wanting out of Revit.

My objects (created in Sketchup) have a custom (scanned) texture (actually a leather fabric texture) applied.  In reading some of these posts, it's looking like perhaps Revit does not import textures from Sketchup?  I saw one post which seemed to hint that textures and colors need to be applied in CAD (AutoCAD, I assume)... but as far as I know, you cannot scan a material and apply it to an object using AutoCAD.  And, from what I've seen so far, once the object is in Revit, there are limits to what you can do to it as well.

Will this work or is my workflow hosed?

Typhoon, I saw your post here: http://www.revitcity.com/forums.php?action=viewthread&thread_id=13830 which started me thinking about this.

Also, the Revit help file says this: "SketchUp properties: The following SketchUp properties are currently not supported in Revit Architecture import: Texture Image Maps, Transparency, “Smooth” Curved Surfaces, Text and Dimensions, Raster Images, and saved “Pages”."  So this is probably why my textures aren't loading properly.  I could swear I've seen people do this, though... is there an alternate method that works around this limitation?

I also now see that AccuRender is an add-on product, NOT part of Revit.  Do I need to buy this $500 program to accomplish this, perhaps?

Hi, see the video:http://screencast.com/t/9u0uk7Sjt0A    you must use "families" (like in video) to control the Materials objects, you DON'T need to buy anything... i create the other video in 2008 because i was render in 2009....
