Is there a way to create a dimension label to 0". When I have a family and let's say I have that parameter by default to 1". But the user changes the parameter to 0" in a specific project. It always can't create the family and deletes it. Is there a way to creat this? Thanks. Lorne

Hi lorne17. Attached is a simple family that shows what I've been doing to allow for a dimension of zero. The basic idea is to make the object longer than the "length" paramerer and use a void mass to "hide" the extra length. I think the issue that causes Revit to blow-up an object when you try to enter a zero dimension is that it still needs part of the object to exist, even if that object is "hidden". Dan3d

Dano, Yea thanks for that. Another way I found was to use two dimensions. See attached. I used this to move the obect to 0" of the reference. I was making a bathroom mirror and need to be able to recess the mirror into the wall 1/4" because we wanted it flush with the tile. But in other instances we want it on the face of the wall. So I wanted the parameter of "Recessed Depth" to be at 0" or 1/4" or whatever. This is the method I used to move it. Just thought it would be helpful. Thanks, Lorne

Not sure if its too late to reply, but what I have used is a double reference plane. The bottom of "Unit 1" and the Top of "Unit 2". Then I dimension the distance add a parameter and set it to "0". I dont think I have had the problem of objects disappearing...maybe its been fixed though since this question was posted, I am using Revit2010.

I have not run into this problem but I can understand it. You can't have an extrusion of 0. But instead of cutting something off the better answer would be as follows: (Formulas not Revit correct) - Set the visibilty of the item to: If (Extrusion length>0, Show it, Don't show it)
- Set the modeled extrusion length to: If(Extrusion>0,Extrusion,1)
This extrusion would always be at least 1 but might not be shown.
