RAC 2008 Hi everyone. I was wondering if anyone had any special ways of creating furr downs above the kitchen cabinets? Most of the time we show our cabinets with open space above, usually in new construction situations, though; for remodels of older homes, most have the furr downs. I have tried making a wall that starts at the ceiling and has a negative offset, but would like to hear other ideas or methods. Thanks in advance. Jim

You basically have it - use a wall with a positive offset from the floor. Wall level 1 - offset 7'6" - up to - level 2....

Thanks. Sometimes you just need to hear from someone else that you're heading in the right general direction. Thanks again. Jim

I know this post is from a long time ago, but since I use soffits above cabinets on some of my projects, I thought I would throw in my 2 cents worth...
I use a ceiling element that is made up completely of drywall, the height (thickness) of the ceiling is set to be the height of the soffit, and the ceiling is inserted and the height of the tops of the cabinets. This allows for LIGHTS to be inserted in the soffits, which is not possible if you use walls for soffits.
Speaking of which, if I have a floor element installed for the floor above the one I'm working on which is for instance 12" floor trusses, and then want to put in a 1/2" drywall ceiling under it, if I put in Recessed Can lights, they insert in the ceiling, but the light source is imbedded in the floor above and does not produce light for renderings. I have to turn off the floor element of the floor above the ceiling to get the lights to whow up in the renderings. Anyone else run into this problem, and how do you solve it?
Thanks
Doug Dunn
