schedule

use furniture schedule as a form to  this question

ie

i am working on a clothing store, and i have 20 different cabinet fixtures, no1 to no20

in autocad, produce a furniture schedule, ((assuming  i am not using the smart scheduling)))))

this schedule will be like

Column one = fixture number

column two = fixture description

column three = fixture count

all the items  in the schedule are not "live", have to input and modify manually

**************************************8

if i want to provide the same schedule in revit

the furniture itself is parametric, contains all the tags

the columns of the schedule will look similar

column one two and three will be smart....great

**********************************************************

Question

Let’s say for a particular project, I am only using fixture 4-20, 1-3 will not be use

The results of this schedule will only show fixture 4-20

What if I want the schedule show all fixtures, but fixture 1-3 have not been physically placed onto the revit fixture plan

one way is to place a row of the entire fixtures 1-20 onto somewhere above the plan, and alter the scope box so it wont print

Under the schedule parameter, have a new column, set a “calculate value” of [count -1 ], that should do it

BUT

Revit won’t allow the use the column “count” as a formula

THE OTHER OPTION

Use if statement

If (x=null, 0, x ) …but I don’t think revit have “null” value

or else do some extra crazy column…….to take column x -1 , and show it in column y……..ahhhhhhh

Any suggestion???

You can have a parameter that you set that will allow you to sort or filter what you show in the schedule.  If the parameter is set, it shows in the schedule and is counted.

But maybe I did not understand your question ... because .... the way you wrote it is confusing.

I think what you mean is that you cant schedule items that don't exist in the model, even though they exist in the project.  I can't see a way to do this.

This can be done if you export it to a database, which has much more functionality for creating schedules from the revit data, although I suspect that you would not want to do this.  You can create a parameter and fill this in manually in revit.   If you create an extra item of each piece of furniture and hide them they will appear in your schedule, but the count will be one extra in each case.  You cannot use the count in a formula so your extra field would be the actual amount minus one, filled in manually.  Not ideal.  Perhaps there is a way to achieve the result that you require, although I cannot see how - I have had a quick try.  Perhaps someone else has the answer to this.

You still have not cleared up your question.  As I understnd it, you want to schedule everything available but only count what is placed.  Y/N?

yes

lie to have "one" shcedule" that will show all fixtures, but only count the one that is within the envelope of the building

so the schedule have show count of "0" for those that is not within the exterior wall

Then I would do as you suggest.  Place the units you don't use outside of the view.  Have all units have a field that is instance based number default to 0.  If you place the unit, you set this parameter to 1 ... and then you add up the column in the schedule.

thanks

but being so stupid, can you illustrate

"Have all units have a field that is instance based number default to 0.  If you place the unit, you set this parameter to 1 ."

Thats brilliant WW.

mcdg, you need to edit the family of each furniture item and give it a shared parameter with a name such as 'furniture count' or something, you can change the schedule heading to count if you wish.  This must be an instance parameter set as an integer with an initial value of 0.  Load it back into your project and give it a value of 1 when you place it.  You can include this as a parameter in the schedule and total it.

that works

one more challenge

is there any other way, just using if statement, without tagging or adding new parameter to the furniture family

i am asking this is becasue the furniture family were given to us by our clinet, and they are stubborn, they will not add any new parameter to any of their furniture family......i am just afraid ppl will forget ( in our office )  to add the parameter  each and every time we receive new update family from our client
