Hi all, We are using Revit 2009 hereAnd two of us use the direction cube in 3d view quite often. It would seem the more we use it, the wireframe lines of the model seem to be showing up in "shaded with edges" mode, to the point where it looks like the image i attached. After it gets worse and worse, at a certain point Revit has a fatal error and has to close. Was wondering if anyone else has had this problem... or may know if its fixable. Thanks in advance -G

How soon does this happen? The longer Revit stays open, the more it slows down as it saves all the undo's, so close it and reopen it occasionally.

hi, thanks for the quick reply. ive been closing then restarting revit as it starts to show these lines.it's just a pain in the butt to close out every 10-15 minutes and then restart revit.i would assume this is not a normal occurence. i was hoping it was the "opengl" setting, but changing that didnt help either. if i work exclusively in plan and elevation views, and occasionally go back to 3d, it doesnt worsen. -G

I don't know why that should be happening. I don't use the view cube, but some of my colleages do and they do not experience this problem. Does it only happen with that project? You defenitely should not have to close revit every 15minutes. What machine are you using?

Hi, this is a Revit problem and until now i never had this problem, but, delete the 3D view and create a new one, also see this thread: http://www.revitcity.com/forums.php?action=viewthread&thread_id=13295 By the way, what is your Graphics card???

Deleting the 3D view doesn't change to problem. I too have been having this exact problem. I've found that Revit is more prone to crashing if you're doing quick, drastic view changes...especially in wireframe mode. For me personally, I can only keep the wireframe mode on while in a static view. Changing the view in wireframe immediately crashes the program. Be careful if you have instances of items that overlap or are existing in the same place at the same time, Revit doesn't really understand this and it can cause serious problems. Also, if you're importing components keep an eye on how big those files are, the larger the file the slower Revit is going to run. If you find a solution, let me know.

Hey all, The new 3d view idea was the second step we invented...after closing and opening the entire drawing was getting old... now having to create a new 3d every 5-15 minutes is getting old...This is happening with 2 different people on 3 different projects...I might add this is not a problem for one coworker who does not use the 3d cube at all in the office.(she uses camera views for 3d and works only in plan and elevation)...Our Video card is ATI FireGL v3400...Our Computer spec is:Dell Precision PWS390Intel Core2 6700 2.66ghz2 gb of ram...my 3d printouts look like the image i attached above with the extra wireframe lines....so im gonna go with my video card isnt the issue...what bothers me the most about this is this shouldnt be happening with normal use...and ways around it should not be necessary...thanks for the responses and i'm looking forward to some more...until hopefully we get this solved. -G

Hey all, did a little more digging around here and found a post with the same problem their fix...which is the most basic yet... is to goto view/orient/top in the main menu the "top" can be substituted by any other listed there and it acts like an autocad "regen all" while id like the weird wireframe lines to not show up at all this seems the way to go until we find a way to avoid the lines appearing all together alabaster2513 had the post with this particular suggestion -G

sorry if i'm not getting the question but couldn't you just NOT use the view cube? if you think the view cube is the culprit, you could try using "shift>scroll wheel" as your 3d navigation tool couldn't you? jm

the shift & wheel works (thats what the person in the office with no issues is doing)it may be the drastic change from whatever randomly chosen 3d view directly to a 3d elevation using the cube repeatedly seems to makes the problem happen. why have the 3d view cube if its screwing up certain peoples 3d views? -G

ha! i agree with you that the feature should work. absolutely. i was just wondering why you were beating your head against the wall instead of just "shift>scroll wheel"ing it. what is the scoop with the "3d elevation" view? what are you using that for? shadows? as in, for a rendering...or...?
