Hello there, I'm using revit arch 09. I am trying to create a line based family like a pipe and trying to be able to change the diameter of the tube and also the height at which it is at. I think what I am having trouble with is locking a reference plane to the round extrusion. Also if possible I would like to add a pitch parameter as well, but I am not sure how to use the slope parameter in the family types. I will attach the family I started. Thanks JB

I would create a sweep instead of an extrusion and set its path to the reference line (this will allow you to control the pitch - just make sure that both ends of the reference line are locked to the reference planes that determine the length). Set a radius parameter for the tube while you are drawing the profile. There are several ways to do the height and it all depends on what you really want to do with the family (what points of the pipe do you want to be able to determine the height - just the beginning, or end, etc.). The route that i would try would be to create a horizontal reference plane that controls the height and lock the end of the reference line to it. I can't seem to upload your family that i modified....sorry.

You need to create a radius dimension parameter for the pipe extrusion. Then create a parameter called OD. Define the radius parameter with a formula =OD/2). Attach the pipe centreline to a ref plane and give it a height parameter.

Yes, use a sweep rather so that the angle can be controled.

I got the sweep to angle for the pitch of the pipe, but I still cannot get the diameter of the pipe to be parametric while keeping the angle and height parametric as well. If anyone can step me through doing pipe size again. Thanks.

Create the sweep and while still in the edit mode give a dimension to the radius. Give the dimension a label, such as radius. In your family parameters create another dimension parameter called OD (or similar). Apply a formula to the radius parameter where =OD/2. When you fill in a value for OD, the radius should adjust.

Thank you for your help. I think I got it. JB
