Is there a way to add unique data to a family type within a family(Frame finish and Frame Material Abbreviations) and have a project door schedule automataically show that data when importing and using that family? Thanks!

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that in the Family Editor you can go to "Family Types" on the left toolbar and press "New" to add a parameter - set the parameter as a Text parameter, "Instance" if you're setting each one manually or "Type" if all the doors in each family will carry the same properties, and give it the title you want and it should show up in the parameters once you've reloaded the door family into your project. Then I believe you can show that parameter information in the schedules. I feel like I might be missing some important detail though, hopefully someone will elaborate.

Please learn to use your Revit H E L P - It is very good and will tell you how to do this. Search for this: Creating New Family Parameters

Thanks, but my problem isn't really with creating the unique data, but more about if and how a door schedule will recognize the new data. What are the details in the family and door schedule to make this happen? For instance, in my door family, I have created new text parameters under id data. They are Frame Material with a value of WD, Frame Finish - PNT. I would like the door schedule to recognize those newly created parameters. I have set up the door schedule to show FM and FF but it will not automatically update when I use the door in the project. What sort of details am I missing. Revit HELP has not been very helpful.

make sure your parameter.txt is located in one of the locations set in options File locations

You guys come here asking questions then you don't listen! Read the H E L P !!!!! Shared parameters are particularly useful when you want to create a schedule that displays various family categories; without a shared parameter, you cannot do this. If you create a shared parameter and add it to the desired family categories, you can then create a schedule with these categories. This is called creating a multi-category schedule in Revit Architecture

Hub, you could have told me to do research on shared parameters. I had no idea it had anything to do with shared parameters. I don't appreciate the beatdown on my first post here.

I don't see why you're so disapproving of WWHub - all he did was try to give you advice on how to spell the word "help" and you jump all over him? Everybody knows that Revit Help is extremely easy to read, always accurate, responds to your inquiries and never fails to explain things. That's the whole reason we have these forums actually, to talk about how Revit help is the only source of information we'll ever need.

I had question about something I had no idea where to start research on, in this case it was shared params. Please reread this post if you are unsure why I didn't appreciate his remarks before giving the advice. I know how to spell help, and read Revit HELP.

I had the same problem as bogusz - I looked at the HELP first then googled for more directed answers - don't know why people bother responding to posts if they just want to be insulting.
