I am trying to calculate travel path distance. In Autocad, you can create a polyline and reference its length in the properties dialogue box. Is there a simple way to do a similar procedure thing in revit?

I believe under Drafting > Detail Lines you can draw a spline, that, when finished, will show it's complete length in its properties menu. The spline option will be in the pull-down list to the right of the line type selection buttons. That is, in Revit Architecture 2009. Hopefully it is the same in other versions.

also, if you just need to know what the distance is you can use the tape measure tool. turn on chain in the Options Bar and it will give you a Total Length read out in the Options Bar. HTH

is there any way to have the distance read out as a "tag" on the drawing? an associative dimension like this would be especially useful on an egress plan.

Some people use a modified property line and a modified property line tag which only shows the segment distance.

Using a property line is not my preferred method but you can experiment with it and it is a tool that is already available. Draw a property line on your floor plan and use the property line tag with distance to tag it. You will see how it can work .... but ..... it does have problems. Here are other solutions and discussions that may help you. http://revitoped.blogspot.com/2007/01/egress-path.html http://revitoped.blogspot.com/2007/01/egress-re-gress.htmlhttp://forums.augi.com/showthread.php?t=38943&highlight=egress&page=3 There is an example egress plan using shared parameters in the "Documenting Your Projects Tutorials." The travel distance is calculated in a schedule for you.
