still struggling with the cables.
how do you specify an adjustable angle for a sweep mass?
also is it possible to change the dimensions/rotation/position of the mass once it is in the model?
sorry if these are really obvious problems!

I assume you want to have it adjustable (angle) in elevation? Set the front/back reference plane as the work plane, then go to the front view, draw a reference line from the origin at the appropriate angle.
Then add an angular dimension to this setting it up as a parameter.
Now draw your sweep sketch in the elevation and lock it to the reference line and the base to the reference level. You probably also want to make its length adjustable so add another parameter for this.
Then simply draw your profile, then a quick flex to ensure everything is working and there you go.
You can then rotate it in plan to the appropriate direction after placement (or before using the spacebar).
