Hi!

I'm wondering if it's possible to create a roof window which cuts through multiple roofs. What I've done is

modeled all the roofs different layers separatly (because we're trying to do a complete 3d model without having to

to add so much 2d-detailing), and I would like to place a roof window which cuts through all the different roofs.

Is this possible?

Thanks!

Christopher

I have not done this with roofs but the following works with walls placed one against the otHer.   I had an existing wall with windows that I furred & drywalled over.  The existing was existing phase and half-tone, the new was full tone.  After using join geometry, the window cut both walls.

If your roof window cuts the geometry of the roof, you should be able to use join geometry to join the roofs and the cut will cut them all.

Let see if i understand, you create several "Slab Roofs" one above the other, right? and now you want a roof window which cut ALL those "Slab Roof"? well, create one VOID and use "Cut geometry" to cut all those "slabs"...

Bump

Yes, Typhoon, you've understood me right. In the window family I'm using a void to cut the roof, but I can

not get it to cut more than one "layer" of the roof. Do I need to create an extra void outside of the family to do this?

Thanks

Update: The only way I've found to cut through multiple roofs is by using a Shaft Opening, but can you use a shaft opening in a family? Can you create a component out of an opening?

Any ideas are much appreciated!

Thanks!

eh, actually it seems to work with just joining roofs, it must be something wrong with my roofs. :S

So you can discard my previous posts....

Thanks anyway

Ok, I should do some more trial & error before writing 1000000 posts, but here we go:

I can cut through joined roofs, but only if the window/component overlaps an edge of to roof. If I place it in the centre of the roof and not overlapping an edge, it only cuts the first layer.

Could this be a bug in Revit or am I missing something? Anyone have any ideas?

Have a look at the attached image to see what happens, it's the same window, but placed in different places. Also, if I move the window which does the correct cut, it stays that way. But I have to place it overlapping an edge for it to work.

It's no difference if I use an opening or a void in the window family, I end up with the same results.

Thanks for any advice
