I'm using Revit 2009 and I was wondering how you move an object up x amount of feet along the z axis?

Along the what what? j/k ummm objects behave in different ways when you're talking elevation. You can adjust the base offset, change the associated level, move it in section, elevation, 3D.... tons of ways. There is no 0,0,0.

You may be trying to move a family or something that you have created vertically. These are often locked in the vertical position in which they were created. Try editing it and unlocking the component (or components if there is more than 1). Look for the parallelogram with the padlock. After this you should be able to move it vertically.

Upload the seat so that we can see the family.
