I am in CD's, doing 2D detailing, and my 14 Meg, 3,000 SF, Vet Clinic Project has slowed to a crawl.  I move the arrow to a line, click on it, and it takes 7-10 seconds to turn red.  I have no site in the project, have purged unused, have no 3D cabinets, etc.  I have 45 Meg projects that have no problems.  What could be going on to slow this one down so bad?  Thanks, in advance, for any suggestions.

This is the only thing unusual in the entire project.

Never, ever, do shadowed views of anything without turning them off immediately after printing, exporting, whatever.  That is a huge memory hog.  I have three building sections with several callouts on each.  No linked files.  The only wierd thing going on is that this occurred after I left the project up (saving before leaving on Friday) over the weekend and finding the computer to have rebooted over the weekend.  I opened up the saved file from Friday, went to work, and it has been slow since.  I can't imagine how that might be the problem.

Why do you have all those un-used furniture families in this family.  I doubt that is the problem but if you are doing that here, are you doing that in other families?

I compacted the file when I saved it and closed.  I audited it when I opened it up again.  I have no linked files.  There is only one view open.  I "purged unused" both from the reception desk inserted family and from the project file.  I have no shadowed elevations.  I have no 3D site.  I have only the one custom reception desk as a 3D cabinet in the file.  The overall file size is 15 megs.  I have had 45 meg projects with 3D metal roofs (using the sloped glazing work around to get the 3D ribs) plus site plus car/people families plus lots of trees that ran faster than this project is running.

What is going on people?!?!  Help!

This problem appeared after I left the computer on and Revit up over the weekend and I found the computer had rebooted.  When I opened up the project file saved as I left on Friday, this slow down problem began.  Do I need to re-install Revit 2009?

Hogmodo,

For some reason, your last post is just repeating.  I keep deleting the duplicate post.   Latest is post # 7.  Something going on at your end.

I see now that you have added a new post - perhaps you are ok now.

To answer your last post, I suggest you do a re-install.

I found my problem.  We have a CAD Drafter who used to write lisp routines in DOS who told me that when your computer suddenly shuts down and you open up Autocad, lots of times you get a lot of paging files left hanging that drags your software down.  He said to get out of Revit entirely and try starting it up again and on the second start up after the crash you usually get away from all of the paging file crap.  Did that and everything works fine now.  I don't know why Revit didn't start up clean the first time, but on the second try whatever was slowing things down to a crawl was gone.  I closed the job down, saved, re-opened, audited, purged, etc. several times without success.  Restarting Revit did the trick.
