i have a dxf with 3d points 85,918 in total - i cant make a toposurface using revit! i have extracted the point data from the dxf file into a cvs file that revit recognises, however revit reproduces it as a single line only with no topography - see attached. why is this? the cvs has all the relevant data. thanks

Typhoon's post seems to make the problem perfectly clear and also points out why the original poster should learn to use his help file. Many problems can be averted.

Hi. The help file was obviously the first thing i looked at and it seems i am following it accordingly. The 3D data text file i uploaded is an example of the data i extracted (using AutoCAD Data Extraction) and seems to contain the required info that is referred to in the help file (X,Y,Z). The import>points file recognises and uses both the CVS and txt files i created but it doesnt display the land. First it offers me 2 warnings (see attached) then when i click on 3D it only shows a single line (see attached) with the elevation being the same for each of the points. I have also attached an example of what the CVS file looks like - just like the txt. The only thing i am doing different i can see is not having the x,y,z coords as "the first numerical values in the file" as per the help file. Thanks in advance

Hi again, look at your image file points and the Help image, "they" said: "ANY ADDITIONAL NUMERIC INFORMATION FOR A POINT MUST OCCUR AFTER THE X,Y AND Z COORDINATE VALUES" in your file in column "A" I see numbers (1). "They" said: "THE FILE MUST ALSO BE IN A COMMA-DELIMITED FILE FORMAT..." You have points ".", i don't know if this is the problem with your file but i think so, "Some rows from the file could not be used" - this warning i think it's the "First and Last" ROWS, delete them, also delete Column "A-B", you don't need them, also, check the 4 image you post with the "Line", did you see in the "Options Bar" the Value of "Elevation"? what Units are you working? By your 3 image your Z=METERS, that elevation in the line is: 221960000.0m???

Hi. I managed to sort it out earlier today but many thanks to you Typhoon. One problem was the CAD file itself and the other was the data extraction method.........FIRSTLY I obtained the 3D point file from PROMAP (online company) and it was provided with the X&Y values extremely high compared to the Z (re: the first warning), so i moved the bottom left corner to 0,0 (to make the X,Y,Z look more like 5,5,20 compared to the original 38200,29500,20)......and SECONDLY you were right Typhoon, while extracting the data i had to make sure i was only extracting the XYZ data (using AutoCAD data extraction check boxes) and not the name and count columns. Cheers
