I would like to have the ceiling height in the room schedule to be automatically calculated by having the volume divided by the area. No luck so far. Is there a trick or tip to make this happen that anyone can offer?

You can achieve this by creating a "Calculated Value" in the Room schedule and applying the following formula: Volume / (Area *1) Check out the Image and the Revit File I attatached and it will hopefully clear it up for you.

....................I have run into another problem. My volume column is "not computing" therefore my ceiling height column is still blank. I double checked to make sure my ceilings are room bounding. Since my areas are being calculated, I know my walls are. What else could make my volume column not compute. I have tried the same formula that you gave me but I did not know to enclose the area with parentheses and add a *1. Why is that required for the area part of the division but not the volume part? Thanks again for the help. We will be hiring, we think, in the Spring in case you are interested.

The 1 in the formula is to convert that information into whole units. You need this because Revit doesn't know how to multiply Cubic feet times square feet. As for your volume not computing you need to go to the Room and Area Tab and click settings. If you this tab is not showning on the left you can right click and turn it on. Once you click settings you will find a button for computing volumes. Turn it on.

........................my ceiling heights are computed as 8, 9, etc. not 9'-1" like in your schedule. I checked the formula, the formatting, edited the calculations, etc. and all of my selections appear to be the same as in your sample project. Is there some other setup thingy that I am missing?

When you make the Calculated Value parameter make sure that you select "length" as the parameter type. This will return a value in Feet and Inches.

Thanks. That did it. I don't know if you noticed, but I asked this same question a while back and got nowhere near the quality of advice that you gave. Are the other moderators using Revit in depth on a daily basis like you appear to be doing? Some of them seem to be more IT guys and not actual full time Revit users. They don't seem to have the depth and detail of knowledge that you do. Don't forget about our possible job opening in the Spring.

Thanks for the kind remarks. I don't really know how anybody else uses the program. I have been assigned to basically learn every thing I can about the program so I do a lot of trial and error. When anybody posts a challenging question I will go a try to recreate/solve the issue. I feel that I am still learning on a daily basis also. It gets a little frustrating when you try and try something and it just don't work, only realize it was some very basic and simple.
