I have created a family for putting a thickened slab under bearing walls. I want it to just show two dashed lines on plan. It works well if there is a single strip of thickened slab. If I have two walls with thickened slabs that intersect, the appearance on plan view changes. You can still see the the dashed lines, but you also see the solid lines. I have attached two screen shots. The first is a plan view showing what a single thickened slab looks like and also where two are intersecting. The second screenshot shows a section showing the thickened slab profile. Does anybody know how I can get it to stop showing the solid lined on plan when the thickened slabs join together? Thanks.

Are the dash lines automatic when you add your thickened slab? If so, can you show me how you control that in your family. I am constantly changing that line to be dashed. I too am having to do something with the remaining solid lines that show in plan. I would be great if we had control over those lines to permanently hide in plan. Steve

I have changed the way thay I do this. I was actually putting in a thickened slab with the angled side walls, but it turned out in the section we were still having to cover it with a filled region. The solid lines that were showing up were the outer lines of the thickened slab which is not the width I wanted shown on the plans. So I have made a family that has the strait side walls (looks just like a rectangular strip footing). In the family, I have it set up where the top of footing is 1/4" below the top of floor slab. This way it wall show up on the plans as dashed (hidden lines) and also the correct width. I still have to make a filled region in the section to make it look correct, but I was having to do that anyway. Hope that makes sense. The attached image shows what it looks like on plan now.

I recently created a similar family as described in the OP and am having the exact same issue of the display changing when the thickened slabs are joined.
For my family (struct fnd category), the geometry is set to be invisible in plan/rcp, and I drew symbolic lines to display in plan for the footing thickness (not including the part sloping up to the slab). It looks right until I join two of them together, where it then displays the entire 3D element (similar to the OP).
Is there any way I can maintain my visibility parameters in plan view when I join the families together? I would like to maintain the geometry of the sloped concrete on either side of the ftg unlike the workaround the OP eventually arrived to.
