Hi there Am exploring the possibilities of upgrading our computers here at work in order to cope better with the increased amount of renders and walkthroughs we seem to be doing. Is anyone able to inform me of an ideal unit? I've heard Revit doesn't make great use of Quad Core (most likely get anyway) but what other key areas should I be paying attention to??? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Many MANY thanks, Stefan

This topic has been covered many many times. Revit does not multi-thread that is true, but Revit does not do the rendering. Mental ray does, and it does use up to 4 processors. My advice not just as a Reviteer but also using many other program such as 3ds Max and ArchiCad the you cannot go wrong with a Intel Xeon Quad Core (I like the Clovertown series, the run pretty cool). I would suggest looking into getting a Mac Pro II with Dual Xeon Quad Cores. They give you the power to render at the same time you use the same machine for modeling. Here is another in depth thread on peoples preferences http://www.revitcity.com/forums.php?action=viewthread&thread_id=12110

No problem, coming on here and helping people out helps me fine tune my skillz and gives me a break from the lame project I'm working on. I suggest if in the future you are going to be doing an extreme amount of rendering.... get 3ds Max, it works great with Revit and the quality and speed is increadible. You can even download a free 30 day trial from the Autodesk website.

Yeah have been meaning to install a copy but the whole "learning to use another program" thing has been putting me off for a little. Prob have to start exploring it though. The boss is wanting me to start doing renders to go on handouts, display boards and in the newspaper so I really want to smarten them up a little. THANKS ONCE AGAIN MATE!!! YOU'RE A BLOODY LEGEND!!!!!!!! P.S. Hope you get more exciting jobs coming up soon buddy. CHEERS!
