I've tried searching the forum for an answer but haven't really had any luck.

So, architectural base plan is imported/linked into RStruc first floor plan and it is set to half-tone.  Problem: the lines from the arch baseplan (face of brick particularly) cover up the lines for the stem wall below.  Make sense?  We've tried several things . . . none of which have worked.

We tried to override graphics for the linked baseplan and set it to transparent.  Didn't work.

We tried changing the elevation of the baseplan.  Didn't work.  Causes problems with other things.

We could use good ole AutoCAD to edit the baseplan so that we could freeze(hide) the interefering lines, but that could be really time consuming at best.

Any great ideas?  Am I missing something simple?

Did you try setting the linked dwg to background?

. . . feelin like an idiot right now.

I looked in HELP to figure out how to set it to "background"

It says to click the "import symbol" then element properties.

Where's the import symbol?

I've tried selecting the import itself, then element prop's but there's no background option

Somehow you have to click on the import.  When you do, the foreground/background will show on your options bar.

You could turn off everything else in VG if you have trouble selecting it.

no problem selecting the import.  But when I do, there's no background/foreground in the options bar. (see attached screen shot)  Is this some kind of great feature that was inadvertantly left out of RStruc, but included in RArch and the like?

The help directions seem to indicate that I should be able to do this but it tells me to click on the "Import Symbol" and . . . I have to confess that . . . . I don't really know what that is.  Does "Import Symbol" mean the imported dwg itself, or is there some "symbol" somewhere that is associated with it?

I kinda feel like this is some really simple thing . . . but I just can't "see the forest for the trees".

Maybe the revit gods are angry with me again????  I seem to have a knack at frustrating them. Smile

OK ... Now I'm not sure what's up.  Attached is my screenshot showing the options bar when I pick an import.  This is a 2008 file.

I FIGURED IT OUT!!!!

When you import the DWG file, you have to select "Current View Only."  I didn't do that the first time. So, I deleted the baseplan, re-inserted it with the "Current View Only" option selected and . . . Voila!!

Thanks for your help!!

I've got things looking pretty good now.  I found out that I can set my floor slab and strip footings to "transparent" so that the imported drawing is still visible behind them.

But I'm having problems with some lines for the strip footings showing as solid lines instead of hidden lines the way they're supposed to.  Odd thing is that it doesn't do it everywhere, just in some places.  see screen shot below.

Any ideas?

That is strange.  I probably would just use my line tool but it should not be happening.

Don't think there are any overlapping lines.  But, either way, I've slept multiple times since that issue.  I barely even remember which project that was.  I think I've already resolved it and sent that project on it's way.

But thanks anyway!!
