I am doing several stairs in a project and am trying to dimension from tread to top of railing or from wall to edge of railing and I cannot get the edge to dimension. I can tab to the center of the railing but not the edge. Seem kind of odd that it does not let me do that since the industry needs this information. I tried to snap another line to the the railing edge and dimension to the line but the line would not snap to the railing edge. What am I missing here? Thanks

I tried this with the "out of the box" stair and was able to measure the following: 1. wall to side edge of rail 2. wall at 90 degrees to stair run to front edge of railing 3. wall at 90 degrees to stair run to front edge of tread If you can't, it might be due to the railing you are using. As for measuring the distance from tread to railing, obviously this dimension varies depending on where you measure from on the tread. To do this, draw a Reference Plane on the top of the rail and then another Reference Plane vertically from the top of the tread (I assume you want the nosing edge). Now you can draw a linear dimension, choosing the top of the tread first, then the intersection of the reference planes second. HTH
